A question of culture with Sinead Hope
Sinead Hope General Manager of University Concert Hall Limerick
Favourite playwright? I find John B. Keane's work really interesting, in particular The Field. Jim Sheridan's film brought it to the masses but nothing beats a stage production.
Favourite actor / actress? Helen Mirren. She has managed to juggle Hollywood, theatre, Broadway and film with elegance and grace and continues to play her roles with ease.
Best stage production you've seen?
War Horse on Broadway. The strong storyline, dramatic costumes and sets were inspiring.
Strangest experience on stage/behind the scenes?
I've heard many stories and have been close to a few. They include stitching artists into costumes, to having a well-known tenor step out of an ambulance to perform on stage after an interval.
The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari, by Robin S. Sharma. It reminds us all to appreciate what we have. There are lessons for everyone.
Last book you read and loved?
Ellen MacArthur's Race Against Time. I recently completed a crew sailing course off the Cork coast. While it was a steep learning curve in the cold and wind, I wanted to see how she managed the long solo races.
Last film you saw and loved?
I had the opportunity recently to get a sneak preview of The Letters, following the life of Mother Teresa, starring Juliet Stevenson. It's not to be missed.
Best concert/gig you've seen?
Riverdance's performance in UL: seven sold-out shows to over 16,000 audience members. I don't think there was a person who did not get goosebumps.
Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and flautist Sir James Galway. Both are world renowned artists but also see the importance of supporting the next generation. They give so much time to ensuring young musicians are nurtured.
Favourite band? Paddy Moloney and the Chieftains. They are some of the greatest ambassadors for Irish music and culture worldwide - and 50 years on their concerts keep getting better.
Neven Maguire's MacNean House in Cavan is an experience that everyone should savour at least once. It has the friendliest staff and spectacular dishes.
