a life in brief
Born 1938 in the Liberties.
Best known as The founder of the now-multinational consulting engineers firm O'Connor Sutton Cronin, which he retired from in 2002.
Less known as The father of singer Sinéad O'Connor and novelist Joseph O'Connor, and now an author of non-fiction himself.
From his book "It was a moment of pride when one or other of us presented our takings to mam on our First Communion or Confirmation day because the proceeds were very useful in offsetting the costs. On the other hand, I reasoned, the money was really mine and would not be there at all only for my big day and, furthermore, it was my First Communion.
"So I dwelled on this idea and aired the ethical problem with Tommy. The compromise we arrived at was to order two Knickerbocker Glories brimming with canned fruit and ice-cream and topped with cordial, along with a bottle of Coca-Cola each."
