An Irish newsreader working in Scotland found himself hit with a fit of the giggles while reporting on a drunken rampage by an elderly couple.

Nick Sheridan, who formerly worked for RTE, was reporting on STV2, about the incident which occurred in an upmarket hotel when he struggled to keep a straight face.

“And the main headlines in Dundee this morning, a nude pensioner terrorised guests and staff at a luxury resort hotel by brandishing scissors during a drunken rampage," he said.

“72-year-old Robert Fergus was joined by his wife Ruth who was sporting a nightie as she threatened to gun down staff at the MacDonald Loch Rannoch Hotel in Perthshire.”

“Mr Fergus was fined a total of £2,750.”

However, Mr Sheridan found it difficult to keep his giggles at bay when he moved on to the next item detailing a local flower and garden show.

Even the most professional broadcasters can relate to the presenter and his employer clearly found the funny side sharing it on their social media, writing: "With local news stories like this, sometimes it's hard to keep a straight face."
