What the Mandela interpreter actually said

Thirty-four-year-old Thamsanqa Jantjie found himself in quite the predicament this week.

Mr Jantjie managed to land himself a position as an interpreter at Nelson Mandela's memorial service this week. The only problem is he didn't seem to know what he was doing. But only a few days after the service, we have the lowdown on what Thamsanga was actually saying.


"This may be a bit out of context, but this is my Dr Evil impressions. Do you like it?"




"Oh dear, I'm shocked at how many of you actually have sign language. Any chance of a few tips? Cheers."




"Quite a few people are going to be really annoyed with me. Time to pray it will blow over fast!"



"Right you guys, stop right there. It's not my fault you're all jealous that I'm up here and you're down there."



"Tell you what. I'll just stay right here with my hands on my chest and do absolutely nothing. Carry on folks. As you were..."
