What age is Arya Stark? Fans concerned after raunchy scene in Game of Thrones
One of the most pressing questions for viewers during the latest episode of Game of Thrones concerned the character of Arya Stark.
**WARNING: SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 2**
The highly-anticipated (aren't they all?) second episode of the eighth and final season featured a scene in which Arya (Maisie Williams) lost her virginity to Gendry (Joe Dempsie).
She told him she "wants to know what it feels like" before they face the battle against the Night King and the very real possibility of death.
When Arya first appeared in Game of Thrones she was just 11 and many fans still perceive her as a child despite her character's arc. However, Arya is now 18 years old.
Maisie Williams is 22.
HBO appeared to preempt the concern about the scene with a tweet ahead of the episode 'Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' airing, which outlined what one might have expected to have achieve by the age of 18 in Westeros, and referencing the achievements of Arya.
By age 18 in Westeros you should have:— HBO (@HBO_UK) April 21, 2019
- Had a pet.
- Moved out on your own.
- Travelled extensively.
- Had a kill list.
- Pretended to be the opposite sex to evade capture.
- Been blind for a while.
- Ticked at least three people off of your kill list.
However, this didn't stop fans searching for the character's after the show, and Williams', Gendry's and Dempsie's...

Maisie addressed the scene in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, revealing that she initially thought it was a prank by showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss.
“At first, I thought it was a prank,” she said. “I was like, ‘Yo, good one.’ And [they were] like, ‘No, we haven’t done that this year.’" she said.
She also revealed that she was given complete control over how much or little to reveal of herself during the scene.
"David and Dan were like: ‘You can show as much or as little as you want,’” she said, adding: "So I kept myself pretty private. I don’t think it’s important for Arya to flash. This beat isn’t really about that."
