WATCH: 'Utterly breathtaking' cathedral organ tribute to David Bowie goes viral Newsdesk Newsdesk

A video showing a Cathedral organist's tribute to the late David Bowie has been viewed almost 3 million times in less than a day.

Organist Nicholas Freestone's rendition of Life on Mars in Hertfordshire's historic  St Alban's Cathedral was filmed yesterday after news of the 69-year-old singer's death broke.

The tribute was added to the cathedral's Facebook page, along with the caption: 'A special tribute to David Bowie who died today. Thank you to our marvellous Organ Scholar!'

Mr Freestone's cover has since received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with one commenter calling it "utterly breathtaking".

Meanwhile, viewers of Celebrity Big Brother have accused Channel 5 of exploiting Bowie's death to boost ratings by broadcasting footage of Angie Bowie reacting to the news of her ex-husband's death.
