Being a journalist can be a dangerous job as this man's mission for an answer shows.

Andy Whelan from Revolution Republic News, otherwise known as Andy the Revolutionist, got more than he bargained for as he questioned Labour TD Joe Costello on all things Irish Water.

Whelan was walking alongside the TD as he canvassed on Dublin city's northside.

"With such hard public opposition to Irish Water why is your Minister for Environment, Alan Kelly, still pushing such a hardline attitude on something that the people of this country so fervently do not want?," he questioned the TD as the small group of reporters, political faces and gardai walked quickly along the footpath.

Costello refused to answer the questions, leading Whelan to plead for an answer: "Come on Joe, give me one question, please. Come on Joe, give me a bit of respect."

Shortly after muttering something about "scum" under his breath, Whelan walks headfirst into a lamp post bringing a sudden end to his questioning.

But the incident was all in jest for the roving reporter as he later said the camera, "Jesus that was one hell of a bang and a half.

"Well, it can’t be said I’m not willing to take a hit for the team.

"By Jesus, me head is splitting."
