This is the intense moment a dog was rescued after falling through the gap at a busy train station in London.

Sammy the King Charles Spaniel had a brush with death after slipping onto the tracks at Elephant and Castle station yesterday evening.

Just moments before the train was due to start passengers and train staff managed to pull the animal to safety.

The scene was captured by photographer Duncan Ruban who described hearing a piercing scream coming the dog’s owner.

Speaking to ITV news he said: “We managed to get the doors [of the train open] and saw a girl leaning down screaming. You could just see the handle of the lead and a little dog at the bottom looking up.

“He wasn’t bothered. He was just sitting there as if he was just waiting for his breakfast”

Sammy was unharmed after the dramatic incident and his owner intends on carrying her pet over the gap in future.
