Watch: Black lab rescued from cliff face by 'dangling' deputy

Clare Cullen

Black Labrador ‘Oreo’ found himself in difficulty when he made his way down a 90-foot cliff in Santa Rosa, California.

Stuck around half-way down the cliff-face, the County Sheriff’s Deparment were called in to save the dog.

Oreo was rescued from a 2-foot square ledge by a helicopter crew last Saturday at Portuguese Beach. The scared pet could not be co-erced to climb back up the cliff and a deputy was forced to dangle 100-feet from the helicopter to capture the animal.

A crowd of onlookers gathered during the rescue and uploaded some footage to YouTube, which shows them breaking into applause once the rescue was complete.

Footage of the daring rescue was captured by a police camera attached to the rope used to dangle the deputy.
