Spare a thought for Chinese folk singer Sa Dingding, who glaringly pointed out she was not performing live after starting her song with the microphone pointing away from her.

Dingding (32) was performing on a live television broadcast of the Lantern Festival Gala on CCTV15, where the live audience and television viewers could see her blatant mistake.

When the video starts, we can hear Dingding begin her song, but it's not until the camera zooms in on her face that she realises her mistake, which she nervously responds to with a smile.

After she got off stage, she took to China's main social media site Sina Weibo to excuse her actions.

"Next time I will sharpen my acting skills," she posted.

Dingding may find herself in hot water as a result of her performance, as China has banned lip syncing eight years ago. Singers are put on a public list to shame them, if they choose to lip sync.

If someone is caught twice, they will have their performing license revoked.
