A mystery Irish man bemused and delighted shoppers when he randomly handed out £20 notes at a Primark store.

Several shoppers were reportedly approached by the man as they went to pay for their items at Primark in the Hill Street Centre in Middlesbrough.

Speaking to GazetteLive, a mum of three said she encountered the man at the store on Monday morning but thought it was 'Candid Camera'.

"He said he was from Dublin, he'd done a gig, had come into some money and he wanted to pay something towards my shopping," she revealed.

"I was mortified.  I didn't want to take his money so I refused, but he took £20 out and put it on top of my bag.

"Then he said to my little girl, 'have a nice day' and just scuttled off."

The man reportedly handed out £20 notes from an envelope to several people in the store.

However, a spokesperson for Primark told Gazette Live that management in store on Monday were not made aware of the incident.
