A father has turned tragedy into hope with his viral rapping videos.

Derek Clark has become an online superstar with his rapping videos.

Dubbed 'Rapping Dad', the motivational speaker is also the author of seven books.

His latest video has become an instant viral hit and has racked up over 100 million views.

Speaking to, Mr Clark explained that he's inspired by the tragic events of his past.

"I was in foster care for 13 years after being abandoned by my parents," he said.

"I turned to rap as a creative outlet to get my pain out after my sister was shot and killed, my brother and good friend were also killed... all when I was between the ages of 16 and 17.

"Rap allowed me a way to express myself and my situation I was in."

Mr Clark said he now uses rap as a "platform to spread positive messages" and hopes he can inspire his own children too.

"Writing and rapping has been very cathartic for me.

"I want to make sure that I pass on generational blessings and not generational curses to my children."
