Man's attempt to slide down longest tube escalator in London backfires extraordinarily

London Transport officials have since condemned the stunt Newsdesk Newsdesk

A man's attempt to slide down London's longest underground escalator did not go as well as he had hoped, leaving him bruised and battered.

A video has emerged of the chancer mounting the escalator and sliding down, before hitting the metal stairs below at speed.

Throughout the short clip, people can be heard egging him on and laughing when the stunt reached its expected conclusion.

The man in the pink shirt received no serious injuries but was left bruised after the incident.

The clip was initially posted by David Bailey to Facebook, where it has been viewed thousands of times.

Since the video was uploaded, transport officials in London have condemned the stunt.

"Safety is our top priority and pranks like this are dangerous for not only those involved but also to other customers,"  Director of Customer Strategy for London Underground Mark Evers told the Independent.

“We have frequent PA announcements reminding customers to be careful when using escalators, and we also run safety campaigns throughout the year to encourage customers to take care whilst traveling on our network.”
