Humans of Dublin offers no shortage of heart-warming stories, but a recent one about two sisters has left readers feeling particularly inspired.

The photo, which was shared on the popular Facebook page yesterday, shows a pair of elderly women sitting in a car.

One of the women smiles at the camera while the other stares out of the window.

“We've both seen a lot of the world. I've probably been around the globe about nine times already,” the caption reads.

“My husband was an agriculture professor from Australia so he travelled a lot too, and after each trip he would take a holiday and show me around. This is my sister; she's 92. She used to live in New York.”

However, after years apart while they travelled the world, the two women have reunited at home in Ireland - in search of ice-cream.

The touching story concludes: “We spent a good bit of our lives separately, but here we are, back to the mother land again.

“We just stopped off for tea and ice cream, and found out they had no ice cream, so she's a bit grumpy.”

The sweet post has now gathered over 6,800 likes, along with plenty of comments from people tagging their friends and saying: “This will be us!”
