Veteran news anchor Lawrence O'Donnell has apologised for a rant which was leaked from MSNBC and went viral.

The footage from last month shows the host throwing a tantrum when he encounters some technical difficulties.

He can be seen slamming his fists on his desk and swearing as he can hear someone talking in his earpiece about something unrelated to the show.  He also loses his cool because he can hear someone hammering on another floor.

"Jesus Christ. Crazy f****** sound coming in my ear," he says at one point.

"Any f****** thing can come into my ear at any moment. That’s what I know,” he says. “Anybody can get into my f****** ear at any time. Some woman talking about what we’re doing after the show.”

O'Donnell took to Twitter to apologise for his behaviour.

"A better anchorman and a better person would've had a better reaction to technical difficulties," he wrote.
