It's not quite the engagement ring that most girl's dream about.

But then American couple Carlee Leifkes and Lucas Unger are definitely not your conventional couple.

Luke proposed on Halloween night and unlike other men he didn't spend weeks selecting the perfect diamond.

Instead he had a ring custom-made, using his wisdom tooth in place of a sparkling diamond.

Now most men who opted for a tooth rather than a diamond would find themselves single the day after proposing.

However his fiancee Carleé was thrilled and gushed about her love for Luke.

"So incredibly excited to marry my best friend, the man who knows that his wisdom tooth means more to me than a diamond.

"We have never been the 'traditional couple', why the heck start now?" she wrote on Facebook, sharing a picture of her tooth-ring.

The couple met at a music festival in Canada earlier this year.

"When we’d spoken about it, I’d said that diamonds are so overrated.

"My birthstone is a diamond. I don’t need one to prove how much someone loves me.

"He’d already moved all the way from Canada to California to do that," Carlee told Buzzfeed.

The couple contacted Lucas’ dad, who had saved his son’s wisdom teeth following an operation to remove them when he was younger.

Lucas then asked a jeweller to make it into an engagement ring.

"What does a diamond signify in anybody’s relationship?

"‘I literally have my husband’s wisdom on my finger," Carlee said.

The couple will be married in Vegas by Elvis later this year.

Carlee commented on her upcoming nuptials on Facebook:

"Can’t wait to be a weirdo with you and dance our way through life to Thee Oh Sees and Black Sabbath."

Now that will be one hell of a wedding.
