'Great Scott' - Barack Obama wishes legendary actor Michael J Fox a happy 'Back to the Future' Day

Last night Barack Obama tweeted Michael J Fox to wish the legendary actor a happy 'Back to the Future' Day.

The US President used his personal Twitter account to reach out to the Canadian-American actor who was the star of the much loved 1980's/90's movie franchise.

In Back to the Future II Fox's character Marty McFly traveled forward in time to October 21 2015.

Obama said: ''Happy Back to the Future Day, @RealMikeFox!

"Ever think about the fact that we live in the future we dreamed of then? That's heavy, man.''

The iconic actor, who is the same age as Obama, was quick to respond, with a very impressive quip.

''Mr. President, I never dreamed I'd be talking about the future with someone who's making History,'' he tweeted.

Meanwhile actor Christopher Lloyd who played the role of Dr. Emmett L. Brown in the hit movies said that Back to the Future simply refuses to fade away and still makes for great viewing today.

Several memes and pranks were circulated on social media yesterday as fans were in a nostalgic mood on the historic date that at one time seemed so far in the future.
