'Everyone had a drink or two...' - Group of English lads got 'catch him' tattoos in Amsterdam in honour of Kerry bat family

And they're not the only ones...

A group of English lads have given themselves a permanent reminder of the funniest viral video of 2017.

Groom-to-be Rob Parkin (31), his best man Sean Rowley, father Bob Parkin (65) and Johnny Howells (30) were so entertained by the Kerry bat viral that they had tattoos of the incident etched on their calves.

The Fleming family, from Kerry, went viral last month after a bat flew into their kitchen through the back door and son Tadhg shared the ensuing hilarity with the world.

Father Derry, dressed in football shorts and knee high wooly socks, tried to catch the bat with a tea towel before exchanging it for a larger towel.

When his efforts failed he launched in an expletive-laden rant.  The dog took a pee on the floor.  Mum Maureen hid behind the kitchen door. The bat survived and eventually flew back outside.

"We were on Rob's stag do in Amsterdam and we'd seen the video a couple of days before so when everyone had a drink or two we just kept reciting 'Catch him Derry' constantly for four days," explains Johnny.

"To anyone who hadn't seen it we just kept showing them the video and on the last day when we'd had a few drinks we said, 'let's get a tattoo!' and we all decided what to have in a bit of drunken stupor."

Johnny admits it was his idea, but says he has no regrets, and neither do the others.

"To be fair there's a lot worse I could have come back with from Amsterdam!" he laughs.  "Nobody has any regrets.  I've spoken to them all since and they're all happy with it.  It's small enough to cover if we have to but we'll leave it where it is.  It's a story to tell isn't it?"

Their respective wives and girlfriends didn't bat an eye either, "Everyone loves it.  They think it's really funny.  We definitely got away with this one!".

The tattoos are the outline of a bat shape with 'catch him' tattooed underneath.  This is a reference to Tadhg screaming 'Catch him Derry!' at his father as he tried to catch the bat.

It seems other fans of the video are following suit.  Another American guy emailed Tadhg a photo of his bat arm tattoo decorated with the catchphrase 'CATCH HIM DERRY' in red ink.

Since the video went live last month, the Flemings have appeared on The Late Late Show and in the US on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

For the latter, dad Derry wore his trademark shorts and socks combo and danced a jig.  The family then sent a pic of themselves to Jimmy to thank him for having them on.

Tadhg has also filmed the family dancing around the kitchen for bat video 'remix' and bat dad has been photographed out and about in full Batman gear.

"It's been absolutely mad," Tadhg, a photographer and content creator, tells Independent.ie.  "I'm still replying to emails and messages but it has been an experience we'll never forget!"
