Turning 100 is a huge milestone in anyone life.

A Chinese artist wanted to commemorate his grandmother's 100th birthday in a truly special and unique way.

So Cai Gouqiang used his imagination to create a ladder 'stretching all the way to heaven'.

The stunning pyrotechnics were captured on video and have since gone viral, with over a quarter of a million people viewing the spectacle.

Gouqiang used a wire ladder covered in gunpowder which he then set fire to.

The ladder was cleverly suspended from a weather balloon some 500 metres in the sky.

It can be seen glowing magnificently in the evening sky.

Now that's a birthday present to remember.
