This video of a boy secretly hugging his neighbour’s dog after his own passed away is the sweetest thing you'll see all day.

A curious neighbour posted the video to Facebook after she spotted a little boy running into her garage and hugging her dog on her home security camera.

The boy, who was cycling by, drops his bike and sprints into his neighbour’s garage to steal a quick hug from the waiting dog.

He wraps his arms around the dog and then runs away and jumps back onto his bike.

Hollie Breaux Mallet from Louisiana posted the video to Facebook asking her neighbours to help identify the boy and to tell him that he doesn’t need to run away if he wants to play with the dog.

“Attn Neighbors! Anyone know who this sweet little boy is? Every now and then when he rides his bike he will quickly come and love on my dog or play fetch real quick, but always leaves quick like he doesn't know if he should be here! I'd like to tell him he's welcome to stay and play, she loves the attention!” she said in the now viral post.

The mystery was solved when the boy’s mother commented on the photo, explaining that his family dog passed away last year and that the boy, Josh, talks about his neighbour’s dog “all the time”.

“Every time we pass he looks to see if she was sitting where he could see her. Just didn’t know he was doing things like this,” she wrote.

The video has since been picked up by ABC News and has been viewed over nine million times.
