Bairbre power

Punchy stripes of summer sequins and romantic frothy lace frocks had the fashionistas in a lather of excitement when designer Olivia Rubin flew into town to launch her SS19 collection at Brown Thomas on Dublin's Grafton Street. Shelly Corkery, fashion director of Brown Thomas, welcomed Olivia (pictured right) with a little soirée on the contemporary floor, where guests included Doireann Garrihy and Jodie Wood.

Apart from my one dancing adventure with Strictly's Brendan Cole, I tend to keep my feet on the ground - but I do love watching dancing, which is why the annual Breast Cancer Ireland Battle of the Stars is an absolute favourite of mine. The event at the Clayton was supported, as always, by the Joe Duffy Group and some of its staff gamely took part to raise vital funds for pioneering research into breast cancer. Julian Benson was one of the four judges and, of course, wore one of his most spectacular jackets.

Julian posed with Aisling Hurley, who heads up the Breast Cancer Ireland charity. Now in its sixth year, Battle of the Stars has become an annual event where performers dance and lip-sync in front of an audience of over 450 people. I loved seeing Stephen Kelly dance and he was supported on the night by loyal fellow hairdressers, the legendary Gary Kavanagh and Mark O'Keeffe, owner of Brown Sugar.

The winner was Ryan Andrews from Fair City and among the glamazons cheering on the competitors were Ciara Holmes (above, left) and Niamh Tynan.

Baby on board

Huge congratulations to Caroline Morahan, and her husband, Daithi, who are expecting their first baby later this summer. She is positively blooming in LA - but had a hard job keeping her secret when she was home recently.

John Healy, GM of Suesey Street, launched the Garden Room al fresco dining experience with guests (from above left) Jenny Greene and her wife, Kelly Keogh. The room boasts a very handy retractable roof, and head chef Richard Stearn spoiled us with delicious canapés including squid and scallops.
