Our resident diarist calls into the best parties and events around the country
Love was in the air - a love of jewellery, that is - at the chic launch of the New Romantic Jewellery range hosted by founders (1) Niamh Patten (above, left) and JulieAnn Fearon at Dublin's Drury Buildings, just across the way from their new store on Drury Street. The striking collection is plated with gold, rose gold and rhodium.
"I create what I like to wear and what I think the strong, confident women of today would like to wear," said jeweller Niamh, who has more than two decades of experience. Guests toasted their success with a special cocktail of Gordon's Pink Gin with fig and orange syrup, fresh strawberries, plum bitters and Prosecco.
Galway hurler Joe Canning (pictured with Lorraine McGettigan) was one of the sporting glitterati who lined out for the opening night of McGettigan's Dublin 9 in the new Bonnington Hotel. The launch was hosted by Dennis McGettigan, CEO of the McGettigan Group, and guests included Dublin football stars - accompanied by the Sam Maguire, of course - but what I loved most was the special performance by The Classic Beatles.
Glamorous Kelly Brook was in town for the launch of You by Skechers and posed for a snap with Skechers Ireland MD Paul Gallagher at their Henry Street store. Kelly is one of the brand's ambassadors so she flew in with her Italian boyfriend, Jeremy Parisi, and stayed at the Fitzwilliam Hotel.
As someone who starts researching Christmas every July for our annual Mistletoe magazine - our next one is out on Friday November 24 - I'm struck this year by the number of Yuletide events taking place before Halloween.
Louise Petersen (above left, with PR Lydia Tierney) has the wonderful title of 'Head of Christmas at Boots'. We met at their festive preview event and around her neck, alongside a gorge Stella & Dot Pegasus necklace, Louise wears a delicate name tag which simply reads: 'December 25'. Girl after my own heart!
I'd be rich if I'd a euro from everyone who asked me about meeting Victoria Beckham at Brown Thomas, Dublin, last week. I met her on her last visit to the store and also had the pleasure of attending her recent SS18 catwalk show in New York. Victoria was very charming - and, backstage, she was "very relaxed and witty", according to staff working with her.
The reaction to her second capsule make-up collection for Estée Lauder has been immense, with particular interest in her Morning Aura Illuminating Crème (€87) - part moisturiser, part brightening primer, infused with micro-pearls for a polished, perfected look.
She's back! Kate Gleeson, former fashion queen of Clontarf Road, now has her own online store, Diffusion.ie, and is running a pop-up store at Meadows & Byrne Northern Cross, Malahide Road, starting next Friday and running until October 28.
