Model and campaigner Aboah Adwoa will grace the cover of British Vogue for the first time next month as she promotes diversity in fashion.

The 25-year-old activist will be the face of the magazine’s December edition – the first under the leadership of new editor-in-chief, Edward Enninful.

The 14-page feature will see Adwoa and Enninful discuss the importance of diversity in fashion as they share their definitions of being black and British in 2017.

It will also include shots by photographer Steven Meisel, marking his first cover and editorial story for a British magazine in 25 years.

Enninful appointed British Fashion Council ambassador Adwoa as a contributing editor for the magazine in July, alongside an intimate team including make-up artist Pat McGrath, Steve McQueen, supermodels Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, and American Vogue creative director Grace Coddington.

Adwoa is also known for her partnership with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this year to raise awareness surrounding mental health issues, as well as creating digital women’s empowerment platform, Gurls Talk.

Last week she was presented with the Role Model prize at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year awards.

Earlier this year Adwoa told how her own battles with drink, drugs and depression encouraged her to speak out about a range of issues.

Encouraging other celebrities to speak more openly about their own experiences, she told the Press Association: “I always knew that sharing my story was going to be the biggest part of Gurls Talk.

“If I shared and was open, from being someone who didn’t share at all and didn’t talk or share any sort of emotion with anyone, it was going to be such an important part.

“And if I was brave enough to do it then I hope that other girls will be brave enough to share back.”

:: The December edition will be available from Friday.
