RTE #Leadersdebate the biggest TV event on Twitter since the Late Late Toy Show 16.02.16

The RTE leader's debate has stolen the crown of the biggest TV event on Twitter since the Toy Show from the first debate on TV3.

The RTE debate stole the accolade with almost double the interaction of the first #leadersdebate on TV3.

There were over 69,000 tweets sent during the two-hour debate last night, which featured seven leaders as opposed to the four featured on TV3.

Joan Burton took the title of 'most discussed leader' on Twitter, pushing Enda Kenny to the second spot. Michael Martin dropped to sixth place with Stephen Donnelly taking the #4 spot and Lucinda Creighton close behind.


The Green party were not present at the debate but secured the #4 'most discussed party' on Twitter for the course of the debate.

Meanwhile, 46% of respondants to a 'Count Us In' Twitter poll voted presenter Claire Byrne the 'winner' of the debate, with major parties Fianna Fail, Fine Gael, Sinn Fein and Labour being voted the losers of the piece.
