Emma Tunnicliffe (36) is a mature student in DCU.
She is worried that the introduction of a student-loan system in place of the current SUSI grant system would mean she would be forced to choose between her education and her son's education. He is due to begin third-level next September.
She told Independent.ie that she would be facing a bill of thousands to carry herself and her son through third level, and that her daughter would also be joining them in college in two years' time. "Free fees are 3,600... that's free... I wouldn't be able to afford it".
