US creates fewer jobs during April, prompts recovery fears
THE US economy created 115,000 jobs last month, less than analysts had expected.
But the unemployment rate fell slightly to 8.1pc to 8.2pc.
The job creation figure weighed on stock markets in the US and Europe – the Dow Jones Index fell by over 1.2pc to just over 13,000 points.
The Nasdaq fell 1.9pc, while markets in Paris, London and Frankfurt closed almost 2pc lower.
"We've got to do more if we're going to recover all the jobs lost in the recession," said US president Barack Obama, following the publication of the figures.
