Tourism body builds on links with South Africa

TOURISM Ireland pulled out all the stops to market the country to South Africa as their leading tourism operators converged here at the weekend.

Close to 200 tourism and travel representatives from South Africa descended on the Druids Glen resort in Co Wicklow to attend the Association of South African Travel Agents' annual conference.

The gathering of some of the top managers at major international airlines, hotels and tour operators was "a tremendous opportunity to showcase the island of Ireland's tourism offering and will encourage further growth in Irish tourism from South Africa", according to a Tourism Ireland spokeswoman.

Tourism Ireland CEO Niall Gibbons added: "The high level of attendance reflects the enthusiasm for Ireland as a destination."
