Kenya plans to ban direct tea sales and will enforce an electronic trading auction system following an industry probe ordered by president Uhuru Kenyatta.

It came after small farmers complained about the Kenya Tea Development Agency, which markets their produce. Tea production is threatened by a "dysfunctional" auction system, predatory behaviour and low prices, the ministry said. It ordered a weekly auction to be automated.
