WORLD stock markets were mixed today on the last day of 2011 trading.
The ISEQ index of Irish shares, like many, closed at lunchtime, and ended the day up 2pc at 2,902 points but down 0.6pc on the year.
It was a better performer than many European and Asian markets.
For example, London’s FTSE ended the year down 5.5pc.
Germany’s DAX added 0.9pc today but finished 2011 down 14.7pc as the debt crisis played havoc with stock markets.
In Japan, Tokyo’s Nikkei recorded its lowest year-end since 1982 – a 17.3pc fall.
And in Hong Kong, shares there finished the year the lowest since the financial crisis hit three years ago on growth fears that China will be hit by a recession.
