Sainsbury posts 34th successive quarter of growth
SAINSBURY, the UK's third-largest supermarket chain, is increasing its share of the market while its main competitors all lose ground.
The retailer has reported a 34th successive quarter of sales growth. Sales at stores open at least a year rose 0.8pc, excluding fuel sales, in the last three months.
These gains are is stark contrast to the declines reported recently by Tesco and Morrison. Sainsbury has been helped by its premium Taste the Difference brand, which has grown by more than a tenth.
"Sainsbury continues to outperform peers on like-for-like momentum," said Jefferies analyst James Grzinic.
