QANTAS Airways will start the ball rolling on replacing its domestic fleet, including 75 Boeing 737s, toward the end of this year with a decision on the type and number of aircraft expected in 2020, its Irish chief executive has said.

The Australian carrier’s move will launch yet another contest between Airbus and Boeing to supply the Australian carrier.

Qantas – headed by Dubliner Alan Joyce, pictured – expects to completely recover higher fuel costs this fiscal year due to strong demand for air travel, even after rising oil prices dented first-half profit.
