Net profits: Weather and World Cup lift UK economy
The United Kingdom economy looks to be on track for its best quarter since late 2016, its National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) estimated yesterday.
GDP looks likely to expand at a quarterly rate of 0.6pc during the current July-September period, NIESR said, which would be its best showing since the fourth quarter of 2016.
The official data showed the economy expanded 0.6pc during the three months to July, lifted by consumer spending boosted by the World Cup and unusually warm weather. Meanwhile, sterling surged after EU negotiator Michel Barnier said a deal was possible.
