Kingspan has eyes for €60m Metl-Span

Nick Webb

KINGSPAN, the listed green insulation firm run by Gene Murtagh, is involved in the bidding for €60m valued US steel panel company Metl-Span, which is being sold off by its Australian owners Bluescope.

Bluescope is selling off around €85m worth of non- core assets, with its US business Metl-Span seen as the jewel in the crown.

Kingspan, which last week reported bumper profits, is also in the running to buy German giant Thyssen's insulation business.

"I think suffice it to say that these businesses are naturally ones that we would look at," Murtagh told investors last week. "But naturally, we have an interest in both of those areas, if it were to fit our overall criteria."
