Hidden costs double for corporate travel
CORPORATE customers are paying out twice as much on hidden travel costs as they did last year, according to new research. A study by travel expense managers Concur says corporate travellers spent more than twice as much on ancillary travel fees like baggage costs and on-board entertainment in 2012 than they did in 2011.
"The fact that ancillary spending nearly doubled... reflects two facts: customers are using automated tools to more accurately track their ancillary spending, while airlines, hotels, etc have gotten more savvy about collecting more cash in a down market," said tech specialist Robert Mahowald.
Concur still found that firms spent 4.5pc less overall per traveller in 2012.
