FTSE 100 Index closes at record high after price of oil hits two-year peak

Blue chip energy giants helped push the London market to a record close on Monday after the price of oil hit a two-year peak.

The FTSE 100 Index eked out a 1.93 rise to close at an all-time high of 7,562.28, with oil majors BP and Royal Dutch Shell B climbing 4.3p to 521.1p and 18.5p to 2,490p respectively.

The move trumps previous records on London's premier index of 7,560.35 on Friday and 7,556.24 on October 12.
