Amazon worker jumps off 12-story company building after sending email to co-workers
An Amazon employee jumped off a 12-story company building in what has been described as a "suicide attempt".
It is understood that the man leaped off the rooftop at Amazon's Seattle headquarters after sending an e-mail to hundreds of co-workers.
The missive, which reached the mailbox of CEO Jeff Bezos, criticised the company's handling of his recent transfer request.
The man was placed on an employee improvement plan after requesting to move to another department within the company, Bloomberg reports.
An employee's contract can be terminated if their performance fails to improve on this plan.
In his email, the man also reportedly suggested that he may cause himself harm.
Police have said that the man was taken to a Seattle hospital after surviving the fall, which occurred shortly before 9am (local time) on Monday.
“Our thoughts are with our colleague as he continues to recover,” Amazon said in a statement.
“He’s receiving some of the best care possible and we will be there to support him throughout the recovery process.”
Last year, the New York Times published an article that appeared to show just how gruelling life in Amazon can be.
Amazon employs around 1,700 in Ireland, with half of them at its data service centre in Ballsbridge. Others provide customer support at a centre in Cork.
