Marks and Spencer may have reported its first fall in profit for three years, but sales of the humble walnut whip helped boost the retailer's Irish operations.
Strong sales of men's suits and children's clothes have made up for a dip in the company's core women's wear division. The iconic retailer is gearing up to launch a range of beauty products as well as introducing a range of 800 low-cost or budget items, including cheap milk.
M&S launched its Irish website several weeks ago and it has already got 300,000 visitors.
Chief executive Marc Bollard told investors last week that the Irish market was "challenging".
