Vodafone claims best roaming value
VODAFONE Ireland yesterday claimed it now offers the best data-roaming value for customers travelling within Europe. For €2 (including VAT) a day, customers can use 50MB of data to search, map, email, upload, download or connect with social media when travelling throughout the 34 countries of Europe.
Havoc caused by Ireland.com crash
THE 'Irish Times' email service -- ireland.com -- was offline for most of yesterday, depriving users of email access throughout the day. The problem is believed to have stemmed from a server system that crashed. The problem caused havoc for a host of users but the service was apparently restored by late evening. Ireland.com was once hugely popular but, more recently, has been overtaken by the likes of Yahoo and Gmail.
Mortgage losses to mount at Ulster
RBS, parent of Ulster Bank, may need to allow for greater than expected Irish mortgages loss over the next two years, Espirito Santo Investment Bank said yesterday. Its analyst said loss provisions forecast for RBS's Irish mortgages should be 27pc higher this year at £147m and a hefty 107pc higher in 2013 at £370m.
New sugar industry could save €200m
REVIVING the sugar industry in Ireland could save the country up to €200m in import costs and create nearly 3,000 jobs, BEET Ireland chairman Michael Hoey told the Oireachtas Committee for agricuture yesterday, advocating a return to beet growing.
