There's just no stopping Minister Bruton

Portable wind turbine machines, hydration bottles for runners and sprouting barley for animal feed are among the eight brainwaves shortlisted in the 'Best New Idea' category at first ever 'Ireland's Best Young Entrepreneur' competition.

Jobs supremo Richard Bruton met the finalists at an event in Dublin yesterday, but it was a tight one for the Minister as his flight had been delayed on his way home from a trade mission.

The competition is part of the government's 'Action Plan for Jobs', and has made of a total fund of €2m available to county winners and overall national winners.

Electricity exchange and stallion breeding services are part of the final eight in the 'Best Start Up Business' category.

The third category is for the 'Best Best Established Business with Add On'.

One of the category winners will be named 'Ireland's Best Young Entrepreneur' in December.
