Update your settings

When I share a comment, clip, song or photo that I think would be inappropriate for some people, I use one of Facebook's simple security features.

I urge each person with a Facebook account, (or anyone in charge of a minor with an account) to familiarise themselves with a few basic features.

When you want to share a comment or information on your status, beside the button 'Share', first click 'Customise'. You are given the options to specify those you want to share with, or those you want excluded. For example, my nephew, Paul, could have excluded all of his family from seeing his status.

Alternatively, he could have set up a group called 'Friends' (see button on left of your homepage called 'Create group') with whom he shares all fun/adult material.

On your homepage, under the button 'Account' you will see a link to your 'Privacy settings'.

Here, you learn how to alter Facebook's default settings on how you share and receive information.
