Your phone could soon have 256 gigs of storage

Samsung is starting to build chips for smartphones which could add a massive 256 gigabytes of storage to your handset

Everything we do with our smartphones seems to fill them up these days, from high quality imags and videos to large games and apps. So more storage is always welcome, and Samsung is stepping up to the plate.

The company is currently testing tech which would make it possible to cram an extraordinary 256 gigabytes of storage onto a single tiny chip for use in smartphones. That's twice the size of the capacity in the most expensive phones currently available, and with the process becoming cheaper we should see a rise in regular phones having more storage too.

These chips will also support very fast read speeds which should make everything run smoother and will benefit all areas of computing beyond smartphones. As we move into an age of 4K video and even higher resolutions, storage is going to start becoming an even bigger problem so it's great to see major manufacturers like Samsung looking to get ahead of the curve with the latest technology.
