XCOM 2 director responds to DLC criticism

XCOM 2's DLC plans are already known, which has led fans to believe that it's simply content cut from the game. But that apparently isn't the case.

2K Games recently outlined not only that the upcoming XCOM 2 will get three DLC packs, but also detailed what's included in each. Fans weren't too happy, going so far as to accuse 2K and developer Firaxis that content is being left out of the game to sell as DLC.

Director Jake Solomon insists that this isn't the case. "I could swear on a stack of science books--which is a big deal to me--this isn't cut content," Solomon told GameSpot. "We don't work on DLC until we finish the core game."

"We're not holding anything back. We have a lot of content to make for DLC, but we won't start on it until we make the core game," he added.

XCOM 2 will be released on February 5th, 2016. The first DLC pack is due in spring with the other two to follow by the end of the summer.

XCOM 2 DLC packs:

  • Anarchy's Children: featuring rebellion-themed content with more dramatic soldier customizations (releasing spring 2016);
  • Alien Hunters: introducing new gameplay surrounding XCOM as an elite alien hunting unit tracking down “Ruler” aliens, along with a new mission, soldier customization options, and more powerful weapons and armor (releasing summer 2016);
  • Shen's Last Gift: offering a brand new soldier class with unique upgradeable weapons, armor, and customization features, as well as an additional narrative-driven mission and map (releasing summer 2016).
