Titanfall 2 will have a story
Titanfall 2 is definitely in the works and single player fans will have more to look forward to thanks to the confirmation of a story this time around
Titanfall was a lot of fun with stomping mechs and wall running humans but it was a little lacking if you're the kind of person who's not that interested in multiplayer.
The good news is that the upcoming sequel will have some kind of narrative this time around, and it's something they're hoping will help to expand the universe. Lead writer Jesse Stern was chatting to Forbes about the new game when he revealed that himself and the team at Respawn Entertainment really wanted to put a story in the first game but they simple didn't have the resources as a really small team.
The narrative has pretty grand ambitions this time around: "So we are doing our best to deliver a vision of grand global colonial warfareretelling the story of the American Revolution and the American Civil War in space." That's a neat hook and should help to bump up the mythology around this vision of the future.
There's also a potential Titanfall TV series in the works, though one of the main stumbling blocks will definitely be the budget - Stern and co are looking at creative solutions to that problem: "It would be very expensive,” he says. “We are trying to find a way to tell a story in the worlds we want to be in and produce in the TV model."
Stern also confirmed that there's a lot of work still to be done on Titanfall, estimating release as late 2016 or early 2017. More as we get it.
