The Division's beta opened up last weekend with 6.4 million players trying out the game for themselves, which is a new record.

Another beta for The Division took place last weekend, setting a new record for betas of new IPs on current-gen platforms with 6.4m players availing of the chance to play the game early. By comparison, Destiny’s beta was played by 4.6m players.

Ubisoft revealed that players spent an average of four hours and fifty-two minutes roaming around Manhattan over the course of the beta. Around a third of this time was spent battling other players in the PvP Dark Zone with Ubisoft adding that 2.5m people tried out this mode. More than 63m contaminated items were apparently extracted out of the Dark Zone over the weekend.

The beta not only gave players a chance to try out The Division for themselves, but also let Ubisoft test out its online infrastructure and get feedback from players.

“We want to thank the millions of people who joined in on The Division’s Open Beta,” said, Magnus Jansen, creative director. “We hope everybody enjoyed playing, and we think the beta is going to help ensure a great launch for the game. We’re looking forward to everyone getting their hands on the full game when The Division is released on March 8th,” he added.
