We're got a massive list of the 10 best games available right now on consoles that would be perfect as Christmas gifts

If you’re looking for a gift for the gamer in your life, search no further as we’ve got a list of the best titles of the year available on consoles now.

Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain (PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC) The enduring action series comes to a close as creator Hideo Kojima steps aside, and the finale is an immense achievement. With a huge and varied open world, lashings of action and some really weird humour, this is a must for fans of the franchise.

Splatoon (Wii U) One for the Nintendo fans, this is mostly a shooter with two teams made up of shape shifting squid-like things who spray ink around which they can sometimes crawl up. It’s utterly mad, and playing it online with friends or enemies is hugely entertaining.

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt (PS4, Xbox One, PC) Destined to be named as one of the best games of the year, and we definitely agree. It’s huge and somehow intimate, with a sprawling story that could easily take you more than 100 hours to beat but it never feels bloated. There’s quality DLC on the way too.

Rocket League (PS4, PC) This game pretty much came out of nowhere to become one of the most entertaining titles of the year. It’s basically football with superpowered cars that happen to have rockets attached. The gameplay is fast and furious and it’s hilariously enjoyable online.

Bloodborne (PS4) After the terrifying challenge of Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls, Bloodborne takes things a little easier on players but still punishes them endlessly for hours at a time. This is not for casual gamers but those looking to really be tested on PS4.

Fallout 4 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) Bethesda brings us back to the post apocalyptic wasteland for another open world RPG adventure. Create a character and then go out and explore every inch of one of the most fantastically detailed gaming worlds ever created. Seriously, there’s lots to do here!

Batman Arkham Knight (PS4, Xbox One, PC) Another of the best reviewed games of the year, and this acts as the finale of the Batman series begun by Arkham Asylum all the way back in 2009. There’s a new threat in Gotham and some delicious new toys to play with as you navigate its dark streets.

Rise of the Tomb Raider (Xbox One, Xbox 360) Lara Croft stages a return after her triumphant reinvention with the rebooted Tomb Raider in 2013. She’s still becoming the character we’ve known for years, learning her trade with more combat and many more puzzles than the last game.

Star Wars Battlefront (PS4, Xbox One, PC) The ultimate blockbuster title, and a perfect gift for the Star Wars fan. This lets you recreate some of the most iconic battles in the film series in truly epic form with up to 40 players. Take on the evil Empire or go on a rampage as Darth Vader – you can even fight on Hoth!

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (PS4, Xbox One, PC) The Assassin’s Creed series continues with the latest entry set in London during the Industrial Revolution. Play as twins Jacob and Evie Frye and fight to free the city from the grip of the tyrannical Templars. This open world adventure is sure to keep anyone entertained for hours.

If you’re looking for more choice gaming picks, here are some titles both big and small which should give you some extra gift ideas.

Destiny The Taken King- blockbuster first person shooting Tales from the Borderlands fun adventure title with a good story Rainbow Six Siege tactical multiplayer action Ori and the Blind Forest – a gorgeous platformer Mad Max fun driving in a dusty wasteland Halo 5 Guardians – the franchise continues with a big story and massive multiplayer Life is Strange a thoughtful adventure game with a unique time travelling mechanic Unchartered the Nathan Drake Collection  – the best of Nathan Drake in one collection Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture – gorgeous graphics and huge atmosphere Super Mario Maker create your own unique Mario levels
