Tablets may get split-screen before release of Android N

Emma Clark

Android tablet owners could soon be able to utilise split-screen features and multitask as a rumour suggests it'll be supported in Android 6.1.

It was thought that Android tablet owners would have to wait until the release of Android N to get split-screen multitasking support. But that may not be the case after all.

According to a "trusted source" speaking with Android Geeks, the new feature will arrive with Android 6.1 in June. This will supposedly be a small update, but will include this new feature, an improved app permissions interface, and some bug fixes.

It's just a rumour for now, but Google has previously confirmed that it's working on the feature. At least we know that if it doesn't arrive in Android 6.1, it should be released as part of Android N, which will be released late next year.
