System Shock is being remastered and early gameplay footage is looking nice and atmospheric. Ah, the memories come flooding back.

Night Dive Studios is working on a remake of System Shock and just released pre-alpha gameplay from the upcoming game.

The footage is dark and atmospheric, making it look like more of a horror title than the original was back in the day. But considering the events that unfold, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

System Shock Remastered has been developed in Unity. Night Dive Studios says it hopes to "keep the new game true to the classic experience, keeping all the things you loved, while updating the user interface and graphics to use a modern day engine." The game is in development for PC and Xbox One.

The studio has become something of a specialist in remastering older titles. It has the likes of Turok, Strife, The 7th Guest, Bad Mojo, among others in its portfolio, and has restored both System Shock 1 and 2.

Night Dive has also reached an agreement with Otherside Entertainment so that the latter can make System Shock 3. Development on System Shock 3 will be co-led by original System Shock's producer, Warren Spector.

As for the System Shock remake, it is expected to arrive sometime next year.
