Snapchats stickers get animated
An update to Snapchat has added movement to the colourful stickers you can add, and they'll now attach and track objects in the frame
Snapchat is busy reinventing itself as full on communications tool, with messaging and video calling as a way to keep you in the app for even longer. But the makers haven't remembered its first true calling - making weird videos and images to send to your friends.
And so today they're rolling out a change to the way your stickers and overlays work. Now you'll be able to place a piece of text or a sticker in the frame and it can be made to move around, becoming part of your living artwork. Think of them as 3D stickers with some very cool smarts behind the technology. For example you can attach a silly face to the noggin of your friend and it will move and track with them as the video proceeds.
Movement inside the frame is supported, as is fancy stuff like zooming and it all sounds simple to use - just record a video, select a sticker and long press on an object in the frame. The software does the rest. Now we just have to wait to see what all those creative sorts manage to do with these new stickers.
The update is on Android now and coming to iOS very soon.
