Jennifer Hale makes what could be her last appearance as Commander Shepard in a new teaser trailer for Mass Effect Andromeda, as she signs off.

Commander Shepard, voiced by Jennifer Hale, makes an unexpected appearance in the teaser trailer for Mass Effect Andromeda. But before you get your hopes up, BioWare says that she’s simply signing off.

BioWare Montreal boss Yanick Roy said that plans have not changed regarding Shepard’s lack of involvement in the upcoming title. Mass Effect Andromeda will be set some time after the original trilogy, so this is more a case of providing a familiar voice than anything, it seems.

The teaser was specifically designed for fans, which is likely the reason why fan favourite ‘FemShep’ makes the final sign off.

The video is almost entirely live-action with plenty of captivating footage from NASA’s archives. Hale’s voiceover, meanwhile, highlights why we explore. “You are that explorer now,” she says. But she adds that wherever you go, “we will be with you.”

We also get a glimpse at one of the ships headed to Andromeda at the end, but we don’t know who it will belong to.

Mass Effect Andromeda will be released in autumn 2016.
