PlayStation VR pricing outed?
A possible price for the upcoming PlayStation Virtual Reality system may have emerged from a Swiss retailer, and it's not that bad
Virtual Reality is all the rage right now, and pricing for the systems is also causing more than a little concern among consumers.
The Oculus Rift was recently confirmed to start at $600, and that's without taking into account shipping and local taxes and import duty. It's more than many people were expecting, especially when you consider that most folks will also have to invest in an expensive PC upgrade at the same time.
We're still waiting on word of the cost of the next VR system, the HTC Vive, and the third major product - the PlayStation VR - is also set for 2016. It's a little different because it will be one self contained purchase, pretty much like buying an entirely new console although it will connect and work with your PS4.
Sony has been quiet on the subject of pricing and availability for the PS VR, and that's likely partly because they want to wait and see how the launch goes for rivals, but we may have picked up some clues today. A Swis retailer has listed the PlayStation VR for release on the 30th of June 2016, with a listing at 498 Swiss Francs.
That's equal to just over €450 at today's rates, not far off the cost of the PS4 at launch. It's still a lot of money but once you've paid you're good to go and ready to step into the virtual reality future.
This information remains unverified right now, but we would expect some concrete information from Sony soon, to keep up their momentum in the VR race.
